Hpv-associated Buschke-löwenstein Tumours In A Patient With Disseminated Anogenital Form Of Condylomata Acuminata
Buschke-Löwenstein tumours are a relatively rare clinicopathologi-cal entity. However, due to their malignant potential and frequent association withsome types of Human Papillomaviruses (HPV), their diagnosis should be promptlycon¿ rmed and appropriate management should be planned (according to the con-dition). In this article we present a middle-aged patient with long-standing tumourallesions located in the anogenital area, which were con¿ rmed clinically and histop-athologically as well-differentiated squamous cell carcinomas of Buschke-Löwen-stein type, in combination with disseminated anogenital condylomata acuminata.Histologically, large tumour nests of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinomawere observed, as well as a marked mononuclear cell in¿ ltrate and conspicuouskoilocytosis. Immunohistochemistry for Ki-67 revealed a relatively high proliferativeindex, and was strongly positive for HPV with a pan-HPV antibody (AK), con¿ rmingthe presence of the virus in the tissue. Surgical removal of the various tumouralmasses was performed by electrodesiccation, combined with shave-curettage un-der general anesthesia. Due to the excessive bleeding there was no possibility forcomplete removal of the perianal tumour formations and the therapeutic strategywas revised. Systemic therapy with interferon was planned with the purpose ofreducing the tumour mass before further surgery. Continue Reading
